Yes. This is not applicable for analog cable where we don't have package concept. Other digital MSOs TCCL, Akshaya, Aadhar and Crystal in Chennai will also do this for sure. May be the other MSO users can confirm.

This is the info from TCCL Home channel about star channel availability on ala carte basis

I think people shouldn't encourage this move of Star Network.

People shouldn't subscribe to those channels in a-la-carte as long as possible which is the only way to show our objection to star network.

If we allow this initially, few months later they will start to increase price of each channels.
(Say for example,After six months, Vijay TV @ Rs.6.10+Tax may increased to Rs.10+Tax)

What would happen if Sun & other network channels follows this way?:huh

Ultimately the sufferer will be TV viewers alone..(Neither a MSO nor a LCO)

Already, ARPU in Digital TV Viewing in India climbed to Rs.200+.P.M. :angry

This move would add additional burden to TV Viewers & I strongly condemn this move of Star Network.:angry

Some people might say Rs 200 is too low for DAS when compared with DTH but TRAI says otherwise,

If the consumer opts for one or more FTA channels without Pay channels, the
operator can prescribe a minimum monthly subscription, not exceeding Rs. 100/-
per connection per month ( excluding taxes). Further, if the consumer opts for one or more pay channels, with or without FTA channels- the operator can prescribe a minimum monthly subscription, not exceeding Rs. 150/- per connection per month
(excluding Taxes).

Also the number of FTA channels has been completely ignored, if this system is forcibly implemented then many pay regional channels will become FTA to manage the competition and people can have all regional channel based basic pack well within Rs 100.

In DAS, cable operator has to compulsorily offer a package of 100 free-to-air (FTA) channels, called Basic Service Tier(BST) at a MRP of Rs. 100/-(exclusive of taxes) per month per connection. The consumer can also choose any combination of free to air channels up to 100 channels, in lieu of the basic service tier offered by the multi-system operator at a MRP of Rs. 100/-(exclusive of taxes). While Cable operator has to offer the Basic Service Tier, it is not obligatory for consumer to subscribe to the BST.
