One doesn't need to be crorepati to buy a 4k tv, Nowadays 4k tv sets are available at very affordable price. Launch of SS 4k can open new doors (more 4k channels launch may happen).

There r affordable 4K TV's but r same still r not within budget of large % of population so it still remains a niche category and add to that spending which is required to subscribe / watch 4K content and hence 4K remains a super niche category. Do not expect 4K channels or content to be available for Free or at low cost, IPL being offered for free in 4K on Jio Cinema or maybe on Star Sports 4K is just one off case. The whole economic dynamics of broadcasters running full fledged 4K channel is not a viable option, on OTT there is some scope but still subscriber base will remain to be minute compared to SD or HD customer base

Remember after all these years even HD channels have not been able to attain high penetration and SD channels still r opted by larger population, also this despite the fact that running a HD channel or producing / acquiring HD content is lot less costly for broadcasters as compared to 4K content / transmission and HD channels cost lot less to subscribe

To fully enjoy real benefits of 4K content one needs to have 55 inches or above TV sets and very less number of people can buy them. Also already explained why on subscription or ad revenue front too 4K channels will not be successful as regular TV Channels in India.... OTT is the way forward for 4K content alongwith certain 4K service channels which may be made available for certain events on Linear TV.

Back in 2017 I bought FHD samsung FHD tv for ₹40000, now samsung 43" 4k tv is available for around ₹30000. and at that time good number of HD channels were available.

I agree but 32" FHD TVs are also available in the market & people buy them. They don't have much knowledge about what size of tv they should opt for to enjoy best experience of technology.

When sales representative will tell them that in ₹30000 they will get to enjoy 4k with the brand name of Samsung. They will definitely go for it.

Buddy, most people do not have purchasing power to buy expensive TV sets which r upwards of Rs. 20000 . Also those buying 40 or 42 inch or 50 inch TV sets in range of Rs. 20000 to 40000 r still quite few in numbers compared to whole TV universe and content available in Full HD resolution is apt for them.

All in all as i have explained buying 4K TV / taking 4K Content subscription is not financially feasible option for majority population and since viewership is low alongside even most of such niche viewers unwilling to pay premium subscription to access such content on TV Channels and advertisers not much interested to either buy ad slots on such TV channels or pay high price for such ad slots while preferring to spend money on OTT/Digital platforms to reach out to this premium audience hence whole dynamics is unsuitable for 4K to be a success or thrive well in India. In next 10 years too i see 4K to become a more common phenomenon on OTT and not TV. Also from production point of view 4K is very expensive and with hardly any takers not many companies will be willing to make a transition to it unless they know that they can sell rights at high price and recover investment. All stakeholders play a crucial role for things to succeed else it does not manage to grow or flourish

Focus of broadcasters is to achieve more subscription + ad revenue for HD channels which itself has not seen expected growth although it has been 10 years since it was brought in here. HD channels have scope to grow with more people buying HD TV sets, if broadcasters offer it at affordable price thus more people will subscribe to it and more ad revenue will flow in as on HD channels there is inflow of content which reaches/connects with both mass as well as niche audience thus generating interest among advertisers to reach out to both type of viewers and even buy ad slots at slightly high price compared to SD channels. Broadcasters need to reduce pricing of HD channels / bouquet and there will be immense growth in this segment..... for niche channels broadcasters need to offer good curated content which will again help develop appeal among niche audience base to opt for these channels, remember in this case niche channels offer lot more variety of content rather than just what appeals to say 1 or 2% of TV audience base and can build a sizeable viewer base thereby brands be more than willing to buy ad slots on it. Also running cost of HD channels and producing/acquiring content in HD is lot affordable these days.

So 4K will remain a super niche category be it on TV or OTT and OTT is the future for it. HD channels will perform extremely well and see tremendous growth if broadcasters alter their current content / pricing / packaging strategy and make it attractive for viewers to opt for it in big way. Niche content barring few sporting events can do extremely well on both TV and OTT so both will complement each other.

Just a short satire. 😉

I am on new 65inch LG oled. After seeing 4k hdr content and seeing cricket in 1080p is a mess in ADTH , looks glitchy and bury in big screen! When the broacast is from Autralia/ENG the 1080p is much better. Star is bad!! wish we have option to choose of 4k soon! Saw WIPL on jio cinema full HD it was burry to glitchy too. Full HD is 2k? not 4k?
