Might be off topic : We all are talking about 4k , they are (broadcasters ) struggling to give us HD in terms of price. Many customers are still watching SD on Full HD Tv sets because of too High HD channels package pricing.

For the Bandwidth issues , The Bandwidth is concern for both broadcasters & DPOs as, broadcasters also required bandwidth on cband transponders . Lets see for first time they are thinking to do via fiber/internet to customer. The Ground to Broadcaster feed(raw feed, without logo) , i seen is successfully running via fiber/ip.

It will be one of the high effort mission to change Stb of each and every coustomer-Remember the MPEG-4migration of Tataplay-If now any Dth operator have plan to upgrade technology then it will be HEVC DVB-S2X[Freesat SL uses this technology ,they transmit about 97SD+7 HD Channels{including test} using a single transponder.]

Actually there are two feeds one that you are getting & other one which has options like 4k, 2k, FHD, HD...

You will need 4K TV to watch in 4K. If you try to play it in a FHD, no doubt it will play. But you will only get 1080p output through your TV.
