Smart/ANDROID Boxes of operators r brought to view regular TV Channels as well as OTT . One has many options to stream various content in 4K, DTH/Cable operators themselves can provide a 4K channel is same is made available to them via broadcaster. Launching In House 4K channel and providing it for free at low price to customers is a a loss making proposition for a DTH /Cable operators.

Your above argument would have held weidhtage 6 years back when costly 4K boxes were launched by some operators but no 4K content was made available to the customers

You didn't read what I said. Smart boxes are not required by most people as all OTT apps are available on the OS of TVs itself. With 4K channels people actually got a reason to get these boxes now specially those who doesn't have wired internet and temporarily uses OTT apps.

If the channel is available through Internet it would make zero sense to subscribe to any plan to watch it when JioCinema is streaming IPL completely free.

Buddy , u did not read the part where i said smart boxes needed for customers who want to access regular TV Channels + OTT content.

Smart TV can allow access to just OTT apps and few live TV channels which may be available on it. Even those getting access to TV Channels via Jio TV+ on smart tv, still the overall convenience level or viewing experience of that cannot be matched with watching TV channels thru DTH or Cable .

4K service channels cannot be reason to opt for smart boxes when one can stream 4K content including sports on their smart tv or boxes

It is basically a counter strategy by Star Sports just like Jio is coming up with Jio Cable to reach out to regular TV users and there too Star Sports might make IPL available via some channel on DD Free Dish Platform
