He is indirectly saying that the TV-viewing population in India which doesn’t use OTT is too much for Disney to shut down Indian TV channels. He intentionally didn’t want to specify outright that Disney will or will not shut down any Indian TV channels. But it’s clear that the Indian population which views only TV and not OTT is large enough for Disney-Star not to shut down any TV channels.

If it sounds confusing, the moral of the story is that Disney-Star is NOT likely to shut down any TV channels in India as of now.
To add to that, he proudly said, Star India produces 17,000 hours of content each year to Hotstar. He weigh it multiple times now which indicates that Star India's programming is also an important factor for Hotstar success.

Also, take IPL for example, the ad revenue it generated on Hotstar around 500-600 crores where as on Star Sports it generates 5-6x of the same. No one in their right mind would shut down their cash cows.

They should rebrand it at the very least. Telecasting IPL highlights 24/7 is annoying. Star ruined the fun of sports in India by telecasting only Cricket. They ignored many important events like English Premier League, Bundesliga, Formula 1, Wimbeldon etc. Need of the hours is rebranding SS 3 to SS Football and launch SS football HD.
SS Cricket 1&2 SD/HD (For Cricket with multiple audio feeds)
SS Football SD/HD (This will telecast football)
SS Sport (This will telecast all other sports like F 1, One championship, Tennis, Hockey Pro League etc. )

Internet penetration too low in India and where available in most parts speed is unatable. Star Network under Disney will shut down some channels in India too but will b minimal. Most channels will continue or at most revamp or rebrand. Even niche channels likely to continue as there is large chunk of population newly sampling such content.

As Mr. Bob said India is a vast and unique market. OTT and linear television have huge growth opportunities, there r so many sub segments within these which require tailor made approach. Star/ disney will do better job that Fox to rationalize cost and provide good content for all segments. Linear Chs shutting only in markets where internet has mass reach

Just hope there is no clause in Sony deal saying ESPN cannot come back to India within this timeframe like when there was when ESPN and Star split up.
