Regarding picture quality, good in sun network channels in sundirect.

Even my friend who ordered SD got the SUNHD STB recorder with Black antenna for the same SD+ price of 1690. But they gave me the white antenna. So, I presume the antenna is same for the both SD and HD transmissions.

The main reason for choosing sun over d2h is, the base pack contains star world and hungama which are my favorite channels.

I have one doubt, if my pack expires within what time limit do I have to recharge to avoid deactivation?

You have to recharge with in the time frame.
