Sad News Three HD Sony channels has been shut down due to low viewership (Sony Rox HD, Le Plex HD & Ten Golf HD)

First and foremost Sony should launch a channel like Star Gold Select HD in order to use its big Hindi library.
Haven't they already destroy it? They are airing shows they us to air on 90s on AXN. They have 4 English movie channels. Yet they still have to air movies on AXN. Sony and SAB keeps on repeating same shows over and over again. Sony Wah and Sony Max binge airs South Indian movies. MAX 2 is also home to repeat telecast of same movies over and over again. Sports coverage is below average. OTT service is the worst India country as it is poorly funded. It's gonna be interesting to see how many people subscribes to Sony Max and Max HD after the implementation of new tariff.
Explain your point. Elaborate how Star and Zee are better.

Yes, i agree AXN has not been run properly, they need to bring in fresh programming and reduce old content. Regarding Sony Max, well i also don't like watching dubbed south indian movies but going by soaring TRP numbers this channel is getting on a continuos basis, it is surely performing best among all channels in their bouquet. Max2 is also airing nice movies from past decades and they r adding more movies on a regular basis in their schedule.

On sports front, i completely disagree with ur viewpoint. I must say that in a short span of time they have improved drastically on all fronts. Telecasting content in wide screen aspect ratio, giving adequate importance to non cricket sports on their channels, having good panel of experts for pre/post match shows or commentary, acquiring rights of varied events or competitions etc. are just few +ve achievements. They are much better than Star India here.

Lastly OTT is a tricky and tough space to operate in, one needs to have all things in place to garner numbers. For sure Sony isn't leader in GEC space, they don't have satellite rights of many popular bollywood titles which can attract digital audience , for Hollywood Movies other OTT players already blocked the space for them by having exclusive deals with studios or companies long back. Sports does deliver fair ratings on their OTT platform and original content is a non starter. This is a challenge for them, let's see if they chart a new strategy in coming months.

No one watches Sony Aath. They are still keeping that channel on air. But good channels like Sony Rox HD and Le Plex HD are shutting down. If marketed properly and rebranded as Sony Pix 2. That channel can really do well. Even Animax had good potential but they had to shut it down.
Yes but it lacked appeal for India. Due to no regional languages. Animax aired shows in Japanese audio with English subtitles. 99% people will always ignore that unless you are hardcore Otaku.

How can you defend them? Sony Liv was the first OTT service by a television network. They could have collaborated with studios as early as 2013. Talking about revenue from sports when some sporting event is on they are the #1 app on the play store. They are the one who can't handle the traffic. Back during FIFA World Cup HD coverage was pixelated. Forget about everything their content itself is not protected. You can easily download anything off them without hassle using extensions.

And about their sports coverage when was the last time you watched WWE live without them ruining the live coverage. Or watch a cricket match with ads between balls.

You are doing unfair comparison brother. Sony Aath is operating in a different segment and catering to a select audience in a particular region. Sony Aath does not require much investment at present as it is airing just repeat content and they must be covering input cost thru subscription or whatever limited ad revenue they r managing to score on it.

Coming to Sony Rox or Le Plex, these r premium properties and require immense capital to run and sustain. From acquiring content , distribution, spending on various other initiatives is not a simple task. As i have stated that Hindi HD channels work on volume game, they need to have either high subscription fee or more advertisers to stay afloat while English HD channels do command premium ad rates and can perform well with limited audience but Le Plex failed on that front too.

Prime reason why Max HD started as a pure play bollywood channel but later converted to simulcast of SD feed was low revenue itself, advertisers were not willing to pay for slots due to dismal ratings it got in already limited viewer base.

Each channel has to get arithmetic in place to succeed and in a market like India where preferences keep changing and there is stiff competition , it's a difficult thing to do.

Well back in 2013 data was not that cheap and OTT was a non starter, later when Amazon, HotStar, Netflix etc. entered India they acquired maximum content due to good financial resources at hand. Sony was left behind at that point itself. Anyways it was wise decision by Sony, linear broadcasters do find it challenging to find success in OTT. Sony preferred to invest on other important things.

Yes, they need to improve in digital broadcast or let go off rights but television broadcast of events have been fairly good, some hiccups should be forgiven

How come Star gets the content of Hooq of which parent company is Sony Pictures but Sony Liv doesn't? It seems like Sony International has given up on Sony India.
