Hi all! Sorry been kind of busy hence not getting time to be more active on forum and participate in discussions.

Coming to this topic, i would like to ask broadcasters what nice content r they offering which deserves high price? Be it any genre content quality is extremely poor. If content cost is escalating bcoz acquisition is steeper then broadcasters should come together and object same. Also please don't pay more to get famous people onboard programs, reduce other expenses too. After this have confidence on ur content, decide ad revenue / subscription revenue ratio and let consumers decide. Right now no one will be interested in spending more bcoz of financial crunch and poor programming.

Another question i have for broadcasters, till now ur average channel cost in bouquet comes out quite affordable so what is so wrong in giving them at less price on standalone basis. Consumers have right to chose rather than be forced into bouquet system.

Now coming to operators, yes in previous regime they got into long term deals with broadcasters at huge discounts but tell me did they pass on benefit to subscribers? Remember channels being priced at Rs. 20, 30, 40, 60 and even Rs. 100 by these operators. Why did not they give channels at affordable rates on standalone basis? Answer is simple broadcasters and operators wanted to just make people opt for max chs that too making good profit. Broadcasters earned in advance , became tension free thus continued to give bad content and too many chs with same stuff while operators kept base pack price high to earn profit and had all sorts of policies to make us shell out more.

Rajat bhai u r saying that cable operators in small areas gave channels at very low price but then what about under reporting which was rampant and we all know cable consumers still face many issues with regard to reception of channels or service.

TRAI Tariff Order is right step to empower us as well as protect rights of other stakeholders. NCF capping will bring down bill and so will reduction in channel prices. NCF or channel slabs can be altered by operators based on their preferences bcoz obviously diff operators have varying investment going into running business. DTH ops have transponder cost, cust care, constant tech upgrades or upkeep, salaries , taxes and host of other expenses so NCF is essential

If I am not wrong. Back then individual channel prices were ₹20, ₹30, ₹40, ₹100. Base plans weren't not required. Also certain operators unethically charged for HD access fees despite customer's paying for a hardware to get HD access. Where was TRAI's intervention back then?

After digitalization. How did many customers go unreported?

Before Tariff order, NCF or basic pack was Rs 99 includes some low cost pay channels. but now Rs 153 so, 50% hike, but expenses and taxes increased just little more. TRAI should consider these and fix reasonable basic NCF is good for consumers.

And what operators gave in those Rs. 99 base pack? Hardly few FTA chs and they made subscribing it mandatory to subscribe add on packs. Now u r getting around 250 FTA chs in complimentary pack + chose less priced chs in primary ncf slab. NCF has its purpose and cannot be abolished. What needs correction is prices of channels

Basic NCF might cap at Rs.80 or 100 for 50 or 100 channels. Who watches 200+FTA scrap? 20 or 30 good FTA sufficient. TRAI it self bats for minimum channel viewing. We got all regional (eg. Tamil) FTA channels in basic pack. of Rs 99.

What about the MSOs who have 20-30 connections and operate in difficult areas? They should get a revenue of Rs. 1600 per month?

Who runs MSO for just 20 or 30 connections with latest technology? He might shows 2000 connections as 20 or 30 without proper technology. Most of the people depends on DTH in remote areas.

In my village, most of the cable subscribers (Manthan came in 2015 for the first time, then the operator guy changed his brand to Siti Cable in 2017) switched to DTH (mostly Airtel, Sun & D2h) in last year, leaving only around 60 (or maybe less) subscribers (previously it was over 300)

So a DTH operator will run only 20-30 FTA channels? Whether customer choses 2 channel or 200 channels, cost for DPO remains same. NCF can vary from 50 rs to 160 as per wish of DPO. Trai has not stopped from giving discount on NCF. Local MSOs can offer more discount on NCF as they need to carry less FTA channels compared to DTH.
