MUMBAI: With BARC starting reporting rural viewership data, the Hindi free-to-air (FTA) general entertainment channels (GECs) have witnessed phenomenal gain in their viewership.
To cash in on the trend, Viacom18 is now focussing its energy on the FTA platform Rishtey, which will see a plethora of shows, some seven days a week, big-ticket award properties and film premieres.
To start with, romantic drama ‘Beintehaa’, which ran on the flagship GEC Colors in 2014, will return with a new name, ‘Salaam-E-Ishq’, on Rishtey, at 9 pm, starting 11 January.
Rishtey will also be extending its early primetime slots starting 5 pm with the introduction of shows like ‘Pammi Pyarelal’, ‘Hamari Saas Leela’, ‘Yeh Pyaar Na Hoga Kam’ and ‘Kitni Mohabbat Hai’.
In a statement, the channel said that the new content would soon be showcased seven days a week and the programming line-up will cater to audiences across age groups and demographics.
As reported earlier, the channel will also simulcast animated spinoff series ‘Chhoti Anandi’ in the Sunday morning band (10 am) from 17 January onwards.
Additionally, the tales of Vikram and Betal in ‘Kahaani Vikram Betal Ki’ will further strengthen the entertainment quotient on Sundays at 11 am.
The entertainment quotient will rise further with the 2015 edition of the ‘Sansui Colors Stardust Awards’, which will air on 10 January from 7 pm onwards.
Further, Rishtey, as part of its world TV premieres, will soon telecast ‘Manjhi: The Mountain Man’ and ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2’.
Upping the ante on promotions, the channel has also planned a series of marketing activities, including watch-and-win contests giving viewers an opportunity to win prizes on a daily and weekly basis, with a bumper prize up for grabs.
