There is one problem. Most CRT screen are 21 inch or less than that. So if you don't use whole screen then it will be impossible to read letters as effective viewing area will be small and big black bar on let say 21 inch. When Star Sports is broadcasting a cricket match played in England, they use Sky Sports feed.
Now when they show the feed on SD channel, it is difficult to read the scoreboard because the feed is in 16:9 Ratio and they put Black Bars below and above
