Colors in Hindi market and Sun in South as per BARC ratings.
Couldn’t be further from the truth. Sun and Viacom18 will be far behind the Zee/Sony combine when you look at all markets. Sun is suffering badly as Gemini and Surya have dropped out of the Teugu and Malayalam top 5 respectively. Udaya isn’t doing great either. Only Sun TV continues to be the No. 1. For Viacom18, only Colors and Colors Kannada are doing good. Zee channels (except Zee Marathi) are far better, but not as good as Star. However, Zee Kannada is the leader in Karnataka by a long distance and don’t forget Zee Ganga, Punjabi and Sarthak as well.

SET and Zee tv are not in top 10 from the last year as per BARC except SAB in Hindi market and Zee kannada and Zee Telugu in South. Their share will squeezed after merger.

The top 10 isn’t everything! Simply basing all your theories on how many channels are in the top 10 isn’t going to illustrate how much better Zee and Sony channels are doing compared to Sun and Viacom18 ones. You need to look at the bigger picture.

Top 10 is benchmark for advertising, so advertisers are interested in hit shows/channels, not in good shows/channels.

Advertisers look into very details when it comes to buying adslots, they dont just check top 10 overall channels.

First they check who are their target consumers and then they check which channels are actually getting higher viewership from their target cobsumers and only then they decides adrates.

For ex Car advertisers will check urban/ metrocities 15+ viewership of channels and only then they will place their ads & decide adrates.

I dont think any advertiser will place their product just based on top 10 overall channels as it doesnt guarantee that your product will reach to you targetted consumers.

If this is the benchmark then colors must register more profit than sony & sony is in loss, but that's not the case. Except hindi market, colors is not strong in any market, sun tv is nothing outside south, they spent huge money in promotion for sun bangla but didn't do any good.
