Coronavirus: Prasar Bharati puts vacant MPEG-2 slot allotment in abeyance

Public broadcaster Prasar Bharati on Tuesday kept the allotment process of vacant MPEG-2 slots in abeyance keeping in mind the restrictions in the country due to coronavirus.

The broadcaster has put the allotment of vacant MPEG-2 slots in abeyance till further information keeping in view several precautionary measures to contain the spread of COVID-19. The receipt of applications from TV channels and the allocation process has been kept in abeyance.

It had a week back, issued a notice for the allotment of vacant MPEG-2 slots and invited applications from private satellite TV channels.

Earlier this month the broadcaster held 44th E-Auction wherein 53 channels won MPEG-2 slots. All the channels are set to go on air from April 1 on the DD Free Dish platform. Prasar Bharati generated around Rs 594 crore from the E-Auction.
