The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) on Thursday in its monthly report to the cabinet said that it has accepted the surrender request of 5 TV channels during May 2022.

As per the ministry, the total number of private satellite TV channels for up-linking and downlinking in India as of 31st May 2022 is 897. The Ministry hasn’t yet revealed the name of TV channels whose surrender request was accepted last month.

The Ministry in April 2022 had cancelled/surrendered 1 TV channel license whereas in March 2022 the Ministry had granted permission to 1 News TV channel and cancelled 1 TV channel.

As per the ministry’s database, 370 TV channels have been cancelled till 19th January 2022. The names of the TV channels cancelled after this period haven’t yet been publicly revealed by the ministry.

In other news, the Ministry recently renamed Information TV Private Limited’s existing satellite TV channel license ‘NE News’ to pave the way for ‘India News Business’.
