MIB cancels 5 Viacom18 licenses among 9 license cancellations

The Ministry has cancelled 5 licenses of Viacom18 namely Hawa Mahal, IMIX, Story City, My Tube, and Treble.

The Ministry of Broadcasting and Information (MIB) has cancelled the license of 9 Television channels in March among which 5 of them belong to pay broadcaster Viacom18.

The Ministry has cancelled 5 licenses of Viacom18 namely Hawa Mahal, IMIX, Story City, My Tube, and Treble. All 5 licenses were cancelled yesterday along with the cancellation of 4 other licenses. Viacom18 was granted these licenses in March 2019 which remain unused to date.

The license of Neo Sports and Neo Prime has also been canceled. Both channels have been inoperational over quite a long time period. The Ministry has also cancelled the license of Housefull Action and Power of God TV.

All 9 licenses have been cancelled with the reason for the same given as ‘Not required’. The cancellation of these 9 licenses leaves the number of cancelled TV channels as on 28 February 2020 at 297 according to the database of the Ministry. The number of permitted satellite TV channels as on 28 February 2020 stands at 925.
