Colors stays ahead of Star Plus for the second time in a row

Hindi Entertainment

For the second consecutive week, Colors ranked as the No. 1 Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC). This time, the gap widened a bit between the leader and the second-ranked GEC.

As per BARC data for the week ended 18 September, Colors reported ratings of 414,841 thousands, while second-placed Star Plus reported ratings of 381,365 thousands.

However, compared to Week 36, Star Plus saw a rise in its viewership in the week under review.

Third-placed Zee TV was the only channel in the top five to lose viewership. Life OK and SAB too reported growth in their respective ratings for Week 37.

Top five programs

'Colors’ growth during the week could be marked by the growth in its fiction properties. The channel’s popular show ‘Sasural Simar Ka’, which has been witnessing the inclusion of several new elements of late, became the top-rated fiction show for the first time.

It beat competition like ‘Saath Nibhana Saathiya’ from Star Plus and ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ from Zee TV, both of which have held on to the top spot for a long time now.

Both these shows slipped a position down—‘Saath Nibhana Saathiya’ ranked second and ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ ranked third. Even as ‘Saath Nibhana…’ saw a rise in viewership during the week, ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ saw a big drop.

Colors was back to occupy the fourth spot with ‘Udaan’, while Star Plus returned to take hold of the fifth spot with ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’.

Unlike the previous week, this week two Star Plus shows were on the list of the top five shows. Although Colors’ dominance in the top-rated shows subsided a bit, its show ‘Sasural Simar Ka’ managed to take the lead.

Hindi movie channels

In the week ended 18 September, all three channels in the Hindi movie genre witnessed gain in their viewership, although there was no shuffle in hierarchy.

Zee Cinema was the No. 1 Hindi movie channel. Max continued to occupy the second position while Star Gold remained at the third spot.

Top 5 movies

The top-rated movie of the week was ‘Dangerous Khiladi 4’ on Sony Max.

Genre leader Zee Cinema took the second spot due to its airing of ‘I’. Interestingly, the same film was showcased on its sister channel &Pictures in the previous week, where it had been the top-rated movie of the week.

Max came third again with ‘Yevadu’, while Zee Cinema was back to attain the fourth spot by airing ‘Lingaa’.

Star Gold finally managed to attain a spot on the list, as it got the fifth spot for showcasing the Salman Khan-starrer ‘Kick’ during the week.
