RE: D2H added Dolby Digital audio for "Gemini HD"

yes, they are defintely doing their best..... I would more like Gemini HD if they totally have a different feed for Gemini HD with no serials and reduced advertisements:).. I know this is not going to happen but they need to do something like this which helps them reach people faster... Becasue, as per my analysis- no one wants Gemini HD for crap serials and ads...Poeple are looking for movies and songs(I have seen people watching Hindi serials in HD but never seen someone watching HD serials in telugu- they dont mind if it is HD or normal).. This is the reason I dont want to spend money on Gemini HD- I would rather buy a dvd/bluray to avoid all this crap.

Re: D2H added Dolby Digital audio for "Gemini HD"

Yeah, I really would like that to happen. I think they will realize that when they get to know that the TRP for Gemini HD goes up only when movies and songs are telecasted. I mean if they really have a mechanism to track it separately for SD and HD channels. Sooner they realize that, better for us [SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]

RE: D2H added Dolby Digital audio for "Gemini HD"

By looking at Kanchana Ad, I am sure they would not telecast this movie in HD

Yes, they won't. But next one Jump Jilani will be in HD.

I closely watched Sun HD for some time to observe the quality and I feel Sun HD quality is little better than Gemini HD. Sun HD is producing better surround sound and better bass compared to Gemini HD. This implies that there is still some improvement that can be made to Gemini HD. I hope this answered Sadiq's question on Sun HD; I am sorry about other 2 HD channels from Sun as I am not subscribed!

Thanks! Yes, Sun HD is better among all Sun Network HD channels in PQ and AQ (Dolby). I didn't watch Gemini HD much.

But definitely they need to improve AQ in Sun Music HD (for 5.1 and true bass). Also, they should procure 16:9 content for all the songs (at least for the songs released after 2000 and better if it is from 1996).

K TV HD was showing Coimbatore_Mappillai yesterday in HD (16:9 ratio) which was released in 1996 but not showing other movies released after that year. I remember they showed the Mappillai movie as well hin 16:9 ratio which was released in 1989.

If K TV HD or Sun TV HD can show a movie in 16:9 ratio then only the songs from that movie will be shown in 16:9 ratio in Sun Music HD.

No wonder Sun HD has best quality among all their channels. It's their first priority isn't it.

Even, statistics shows the same!!

Sun network started these 4 HD channels in Dec 2011 and they started telecasting HD content in Sun HD and Sun Music HD.... I still remember they telecasted Robo in HD within one month of their channel launch and it took almost 3 years for them to telecast HD content in Gemini HD and we still counting for improvements... I still dont the reason behind starting an HD channel for KTV.

Overall, if they had started 2-2 channels in Tamil and Telugu, it would have been much balanced and packages would have been beneficial to them as well as for both Telugu and Tamil people. Telugu people would have opted for South HD Access fee if we have atleast 2 channels in that package. Now, we are choiceless - either we have to go with ala-carte or South Access Fee HD (Calculations based on south entry package). You might ask 40-50Rs is not a big deal - yes, ofcourse its not a big deal provided they do telecast HD content and behave like HD broadcaster.

Everything was balanced until they had Telugu/Tamil HD services but everything started changing since their removal of HD services from Sun HD. Now, they only know what to do and how to do!

RE: D2H added Dolby Digital audio for "Gemini HD"

K TV HD is required. But they should not multicast with K TV SD. In HD version they should try to play only HD movies and even some times they premiere movies. But they themselves not interested in increasing the viewership of K TV over Sun TV in terms of movie premieres.

RE: D2H added Dolby Digital audio for "Gemini HD"

I wonder if Sun Network Team understands what High Definition means. Technically, they are just incapable of doing it.

Their biggest problem is simulcasting SD and HD feeds. They are struggling to upscale SD content to HD and downscale HD content. I guess they are using some manual/brute fore techniques to switch aspect ratios between SD and HD.

Sun HD and Sun Music HD might be a different case but this is what happens with Gemini HD.
For example, when a HD movie is being played on Gemini HD, picture on Gemini SD runs in 16:9 aspect ratio. And as soon as ads start both shrink down to 4:3 aspect ratio and picture gets stretched. This is ok on newer widescreen tvs but on CRT TVs with 4:3 aspect ratio sides are just chopped off in the SD version. Just for comparison sake, Gemini HD feed is slightly better than SD (just some more bright colors and 5.1 surround) and the SD feed of ETV Telugu is on par with Gemini HD.

Movies Now and History TV18 also do simulcasting. But they handle it so well. I Feel SUN Network just launched Gemini HD and KTV HD channels for name sake. They are either not putting any additional effort in video processing (upscaling and downscaling) and getting away with switching aspect ratio as and when needed or doing a very bad job at upscaling/downscaling. Thats why inconsistent picture quality, audio quality.

To my knowledge, they need to run the source through some technical mechanism to produce HD video and 5.1 sound which definitely involve some cost.... But, in this case there cane be one of the below 2 issues:
1. The source is bad and they are not able to produce 5.1 sound using the source..
2. The mechanism have some issue running the source properly..

Either case, its upto the broadcaster to ensure to get the right source with right data and to have a right mechanism to produce the output..
