RE: D2H added Dolby Digital audio for "Gemini HD"
I just want to comment on History TV 18 and Movies Now. These channels are not doing simulcasting. There is no separate SD channels available for these two channels. Originally, the broadcaster is providing HD channel at 16:9 ratio. But the cable operators or DTH operators are downscaling into SD and changing the aspect ratio to 4:3 by adding black bars.
Sun HD channels are having separate SD and HD channels but the aspect ration change is being done by the broadcaster themselves.

Their biggest problem is simulcasting SD and HD feeds. They are struggling to upscale SD content to HD and downscale HD content. I guess they are using some manual/brute fore techniques to switch aspect ratios between SD and HD.
Sun HD and Sun Music HD might be a different case but this is what happens with Gemini HD.
For example, when a HD movie is being played on Gemini HD, picture on Gemini SD runs in 16:9 aspect ratio. And as soon as ads start both shrink down to 4:3 aspect ratio and picture gets stretched. This is ok on newer widescreen tvs but on CRT TVs with 4:3 aspect ratio sides are just chopped off in the SD version. Just for comparison sake, Gemini HD feed is slightly better than SD (just some more bright colors and 5.1 surround) and the SD feed of ETV Telugu is on par with Gemini HD.
Movies Now and History TV18 also do simulcasting. But they handle it so well. I Feel SUN Network just launched Gemini HD and KTV HD channels for name sake. They are either not putting any additional effort in video processing (upscaling and downscaling) and getting away with switching aspect ratio as and when needed or doing a very bad job at upscaling/downscaling. Thats why inconsistent picture quality, audio quality.
