MUMBAI: Dish TV has created a new sub-brand, Zing, to target regional markets. Subscribers to this service will get a wide swathe of regional-language channels. The set-top-box will be available at a lower price.
For starters, Zing launched today in West Bengal with 26 Bangla channels and services.
Dish TV CEO RC Venkateish said, “The cable digitisation process has fuelled the growth for all DTH operators in the country with more households shifting to a digital base. As industry leaders and pioneers of the DTH sector we are again thrilled to be the first to introduce an entirely new brand Zing for the benefit of our esteemed customers in West Bengal.”
Besides content, Zing will have advertising, packaging and other marketing activities also in Bangla.
Dish TV COO Salil Kapoor added, “TV content consumption preferences are different across various states of India. Zing is a unique initiative where a complete new brand is being launched to address this need for regional content. Now not only will packages cater to specific audiences across states, but even communication will be in the customer’s language of choice.”

Dish TV rolls out ZING in state to tap regional viewers

In a bid to provide customised local television channels to the regional viewers of the state, direct to home digital service provider Dish TV India Ltd today rolled out a new brand 'Zing' in the state.
"We are eyeing all the customers who are focused on the regional content. These customers may not be interested in international content and are happy with the regional contents", said Salil Kapoor, chief operating officer, Dish TV India limited at the launching ceremony.
Such customers are mostly found in small towns and rural areas, he added.
The company has already launched the new service in West Bengal catering to local viewers.
"There is huge opportunity as the third and fourth phase of digitisation will see roughly 90 million viewers moving from analog to the digital platform, the process of which has already started", he added.
Both the third and fourth phase of cable television digitisation is likely to be completed by September and December, respectively.
The new brand will offer the regional channels as the base while other segments can be added as per the need of the customers.
The new brand offers 13 Odia channels including GEC (general entertainment channels), devotional and news channels to viewers in exciting packs compared to other DTH brands, claims the company.
To avail Zing, a customer will have to subscribe to a new connection and buy a set top box worth Rs 1099 and pay installation charges of Rs 200. The monthly subscription fee ranges from Rs 175 to Rs 349 depending on the number of channels subscribed. There will be three packs priced at Rs. 175 ( Rs 149 plus taxes), Rs 249 and Rs 349.
The company claims that the prices of packs are lower compared to its peers. Dish TV's total subscriber base stood at around 16 million in the country.

Why zing introduce package of rs350…

if top official announcing that zing brand for regional people who dont want international channels?

also dish tv started dth service as rural dth player to cater to customer in town and villages where cable tv was not present some 10 years back.

now also very less people subcibe to dish tv in cities.

then how come company expect arpu to be rise with zing which is for regional customer who ll choose lowest subsciption pack?

although it says 16 million customer 50% must be in deactive state stb lying in villages of india

Actually dishtv is following Tatasky or ADTV policy of removing regional channels from their base pack. Zing and DishTV packs are almost same except DishTv has all regional packs in their base pack but in zing only one regional pack for example bengali incase of bengal or odia in case of odia.
