DishTV welcomes ISRO¡¯s move of allowing private firms to buy or lease foreign satellites
New Delhi, August 17, 2015: DishTV, Asia¡¯s largest DTH service provider today welcomed ISRO¡¯s move of allowing private firms to buy or lease foreign satellites.
DishTV believes that the move would help Indian users such as direct to home satellite operators take quicker decisions to scale and reduce cost of transactions. The possibility of the move comes in the wake of ISRO considering an ¡®Open Sky Policy¡¯. While this will benefit the users in terms of larger choice as far as content is concerned, the DTH players will get an opportunity to increase their ARPU after adding higher number of channels. Speaking on the development, Mr. Jawahar Goel, Managing Director, DishTV India said, ¡°We believe this move would enhance the transponder capacity and help the DTH operators in India.
The increased transponder capacity would provide the industry an opportunity to increase the number of channels and services, which further will benefit the stakeholders including viewers, broadcasters and DTH service providers. We welcome the move by ISRO and would like to urge the cabinet to approve it for the benefit of DTH industry at large¡±.
