You guys are missing bigger picture, Sony+ Disney will have monopoly over Indian sports broadcasting so if i was in that position i would definitely raise the price of my ch as viewers will have no other choice
Although these are complex business strategies, but there's no way Disney would want to share the revenue from IPL to SPN. ESPN would would most probably exit the agreement with SPN. Also as far as I'm aware there are laws even in India just like the US that prevent monopolies in the broadcasting industry.
We would have to wait atleast an year or two before we see visible changes on the ground level in terms of channel renaming or logo changes if this deal goes through.

Bro Sony Partner with ESPN...Then IPL will be on Sony ESPN

First of all, ESPN, though under Disney, will not have any IPL content on it because its Star who won the rights. Star Sports, if now falls under Disney, won't share any of its assets with ESPN as ESPN continues to be with Sony for the Indian subcontinent.

There is no chance that any channel associated with Sony to get a tinge of IPL content for the next five years. A possibility of Star sharing its IPL broadcast with ESPN outside India might exist; but not for India.

Star is a big brand in South East Asia and Indian subcontinent. 99% chance is that Star's name will be retained
They have changed all the STAR names in Southeast Asia to Fox, in Southeast Asia Star World is Fox Life, Star Movies is Fox Movies, FX, Fox Sports.

maybe in a year or two, whole star brand will be changed to Disney like Disney Plus, Disney Bharat, Disney Gold, Disney Movies, Disney World, Disney Sports, Disney MAA, Disney Suvarna, Disney Pravah, Disney Jalsha, Disney Vijay, Disney Asianet
maybe they'll retain nat geo.

But After years of hurdles, the star has somehow got a stable position India with good regional, national, sports channel portfolio. they should reconsider selling the whole brand to Disney.
Or may be they'd use The UTV brand for rebranding in india

Correct bro

Fox has international channels across the world eg. Fox Russia, Fox Italy, Fox Life Latin America etc. so maybe Fox Life India may be retained to mirror other FOX channel. Without Fox TV production studio this will be useless to retain because they have to buy rights from other companies to show content. Maybe they will launch international version of Fox News on them?

CNN is also speculating that sports business gamble is because of fear of major tech companies buying sports rights.
Disney-Fox deal would be a media and entertainment earthquake
"Disney is doubling down on its own troubled asset base," Greenfield said, referring to its sports-heavy cable network portfolio, including ESPN, which has been going through a down period recently. "Buying Fox would add regional sports network, would add Sky Sports, Star Sports, basically expand the ESPN problem not just in the U.S. but globally."
"This is the perfect time to be getting out." Greenfield said. "Selling now versus waiting for the bundle, or God forbid an Apple or Amazon start buying sports rights, the whole cable bundle could collapse. Trying to get out now is absolutely the right move."
As for Fox, Wieser said the smaller entity could see some advantages from putting more concentrated attention on the news business, perhaps even integrating the Fox News channel more with its Fox broadcast stations.

WSJ on Star India's Earnings:
Fox’s Star India is one of the fastest-growing programmers with revenue of $1.3 billion, up from $570 million in 2010. Its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization are projected to grow from $230 million in the most-recent fiscal year to $1 billion by 2020.

Why is that many of you eagerly want them to rebrand Star!?

FYI, UTV is not Disney's own brand. They bought the channel years ago and have not rebranded it till now. Why do you even think Disney would be eager to rebrand Star, that too under UTV brand!?

There will only be ownership change, no rebranding exercise in my opinion.
