From past 1 year i used ARC HDMI audio output..
Recently i tested sound with optical output (via TV, not via STB) and i was blown away with the sound quality.

In STB audio settings >> change HDMI audio to DD+ and output audio via TV.

If you output audio via STB >> Optical, then you would not get DD+, as output audio via STB supports only DD (i could be wrong here.. check before proceeding)

yes I agree with you Optical out from TV to Home theater gives you all sound in digital quality, be it a pen drive, casting from laptop or phone, a good quality optical cable does wonders.
Always remember to keep the TV sound setting to Automatic in the external speaker settings.

Many tv's doesn't have Optical input option.

Hi shrey7,

Can you directly connect STB optical (select Dolby Digital or stereo) to HT and tell me the sound quality. Also STB HDMI (Dolby Digital) >>TV Optical>>HT.
