All television users in Karnataka, who are connected via cable networks, should compulsorily have digital set-top boxes installed before December 2014, said Sibichen K Mathew, regional head (Karnataka and Kerala), Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.

He was speaking at the TRAI Consumer Outreach Programme held to create awareness among telecom consumers about their rights and privileges. “This digitalisation of cable TV network, already completed in four metros and 38 cities, will provide various value added services including broadband for the consumers,” he added.

He said human resources and technical education are the two key factors that will help India become a super power. In that direction, the telecom revolution has been contributing its best, he added. He further said: “In 2004, only 7 per cent of urban people had mobile phones. But today, it has reached 74 per cent. Likewise, only 1.7 per cent of rural population had mobile connections and today their strength has increased to 40 per cent.”

“Of 124 crore people, only 50 per cent have bank accounts. But there are over 90 crore mobile consumers,” he said. Senior research officers H C Latha and K Muralidhara also spoke on the occasion. Telecom consumers and representatives of telecom service providers and consumer forums participated in the programme.

Sounds good. But in reality is it possible considering Indian mentality?

Btw, When all Indian homes will be digitised? Dec 2015 ?

Even though All Indian home will digitize, chennai will not able to digitize even in 2025...

When it comes to election all the political parties will fight for the seat in Chennai, but when it comes to cable TV all of them will form an alliance against the people.

This doesn't look like some TRAI or central govt issue, this seems to be purely an agreement to equally share the amount stolen from the people.
