India’s Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRAI) media regulator wants the nation’s cable MSOs and DTH broadcasters to ensure that digital set-top boxes support interoperability.
TRAI says that it is likely that India’s Ministry of Information & Broadcasting will insist on such functionality on its rules and regulations and incorporated in future licensing.
TRAI adds that its recommendations, issued on April 11, will apply to the DTH sector as well as cable operators. It is proposing a 6-month implementation period for DTH and for the implementations of DVB CI+ 2.0 standards, and the ETSI TS 103-605 standard for cable.
