I think Voot increase subscription rate ?
It's perfect time for paramount to join voot. As it helps both them. It will add to their global subscription.I think Voot increase subscription rate ?
I will be the happiest person if the IPL indeed returns to Sony, which is its rightful home. Sony will restore the glory that was lost when Star took it. I hope Extraaa Innings T20 is relaunched with all the glamour and spectacle that it had until 2017, and I hope Gaurav Kapur at least will return to it.
However, as far as Viacom18 winning the digital rights is concerned, I am not so sure it will be as beneficial for Voot as it is a loss for Sports18. If Sports18 got the IPL it would have resulted in a tremendous increase in the popularity of the channel. SonyLIV is used to showing sports whereas Voot has so far had only niche sports and whether or not it can handle the IPL’s massive traffic like Disney+ Hotstar did is a big question mark.
Either way, Disney Star has lost big, as it couldn’t keep either the digital or the satellite rights in India. But it is obviously a blessing in disguise since it can now focus on ICC, BCCI or other more important things. Ultimately the BCCI is laughing all the way to the bank by earning tens of thousands of crores.
Now that Disney Star has officially lost the IPL media rights, Approximately Rs 5,500 crore ( as per the latest report by Best Media Info ) will be wiped out from its annual revenues but the market leader will also have to re-draw it’s plans for the Indian market. The network made IPL revenues 3 times bigger than what it was five years back. I feel it’s time for ESPN comeback in the Indian subcontinent with an fresh content strategy with graphics that we all crave for!
Considering Disney Star have saved tons of money, I can see them making some bold moves across genres!
It just didn’t make financial sense for Disney to shell out billions for cricket to keep subscribers who basically get the service for free and drag down the ARPU. Hopefully the inevitable subscribers losses will be counteracted by Disney+ launching in 50 new countries. The highest average monthly revenue per user that Disney has disclosed for Disney+ Hotstar since it was launched in April 2020 was $1.03, in the first quarter of this year. The company has said in several quarterly and annual financial reports that revenue per user from India has been a drag on overall revenue for Disney+. Subscribers in other countries excluding India, generated an average of $6.35 in ARPU.
Revenue may be good but if u count in investment made for rights then all the costs involved in production, promotion and many other things then this revenue does not seem to generate any major profit for star/disney
I know that but after Netflix’s rough 6 months investors are starting to focus more on cash flow rather than just subscriber numbers. I still think IPL would be a boost for Disney but at what cost? Infact Disney should least care about Indian streaming market considering it's not a big deal yet.Buddy, all the apps u r getting bundled in mobile, broadband or with other things they r being provided free or at discounted rates to u but the concerned operator is paying subscription amount for same to star / disney . Also ARPU for disney+hotstar may b low as in India ads drive more revenue compared to subscription but the massive subscriber base Disney got thru their OTT platform in India lead to drastic increase in valuation of company. You cannot compare data of foreign countries with India as both work on different business models
