MUMBAI: Trying to force the country’s premier to resign, Pakistani protesters broke into the headquarters of Pakistan national broadcaster PTV in central Islamabad today.
PTV showed live footage of a crowd of men streaming into the building after breaking through its gate before it went off air. The army has been called in to restore order, other channels reported.
Transmission of PTV news channel was cut minutes after an anchor announced demonstrators had entered the building and ‘besieged’ staff.
In his address to the protesters, former cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan said today, “Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his aides are protecting themselves. The government must quit. It is for you to decide whether you want to live in a free nation or be a slave of the Sharif government. Freedom or death.”
