Also, what does this mean for the relationship between Dharma, Star and Viacom18?
Dharma's upcoming movie Selfiiee is now Co-Produced By Star Studios

Source

Selfiee's Digital Rights were already acquired by Hotstar as mentioned in the announcement video & now Satellite Rights also could he with Star and that's why Dharma decided to sell Govinda Naam Mera also to Hotstar bcoz Viacom doesn't have popular OTT platform

But The Main question is why didn't Amazon Prime Video premiere it directly since they were the first one to acquire Digital Rights Of Govinda Naam Mera due to deal with Dharma

I guess Amazon is too selective about movies.

Is it the distribution house that sells the rights or is it the production house.

Production house, now the thing is multiple producers are involved in movies, so the decision taken by multiple producer to whom it will sell. Like sony t series deal, some movies go to other networks as other producers want to sell it to different network. At last, it is all about money, if sony offered more for those movies, they would end up with sony. Same goes for other deals like star yrf, reliance zee. There is no fixed deal & at present scenario it's tough to predict wha will happen next

Viacom18 was india's first fully integrated studio house. And when it comes to movie sales it depends on distribution house and not production house. So all sales are based on intrest of viacom18.

And even if viacom18 wants to buy viacom18 studio filmd ,it need to compete with other players.

Colors Cineplex might just be the media partner of Govinda Naam Mera

As far as the decision about who gets to decide satellite or digital rights of movie, it differs for various movies.

Where there is a single producer involved or single big producer alongwith some small producers is involved in making a movie then usually big producer gets to decide about satellite and digital OTT partner. In such case revenue earned would be proportionally divided among them

When there r multiple big prominent producers/banners involved there can be situation where both satellite and OTT rights partner get decided by a single producer or one gets to decide satellite rights whereas other decides OTT partner. Revenue generated gets divided accordingly for the same

Also these days many times actors buy satellite / digital rights of films they act in and then handover the same to the broadcaster / OTT platform they have agreement with or in certain cases actors do not charge any fee for acting in a movie and instead ask producers to give them satellite or digital rights of the film

As far as distributor deciding on satellite or OTT partner for a movie is concerned, it can only happen if the distributor has bought rights for the same from producer...also in such occasions too rights mostly remain with distributor for certain duration of time then it goes back to producers.

Sometimes after certain period library companies buy rights of these films for longer periods

So all in all one can only decode such things on individual movie basis after looking at all the facts

Both satellite and digital rights of this movie have been bought by Disney Star at total price of Rs. 62 crore as stated in various news articles which r available online
No bro satellite rights woth colors, its logo is mentioned in the movie.

If T Series jointly produces a movie and has satellite or digital rights for the same then it will handover the films to Sony and Netflix/Amazon Prime Video or any other partner with whom they have an ongoing agreement for the same. If other producer holds the rights then they get to decide about satellite and OTT partner.

Sony cannot simply quote high amount and be assured to acquire rights of all T Series joint productions. It depends who holds the rights, if other producer has ongoing agreement with say disney star then it will get satellite / digital rights of the movie

I guess Amazon is too selective about movies.

There was a recent news article which stated that Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are now very cautious about acquiring rights of bollywood movies bcoz costing is too high and returns seem to be less

Dharma Productions new agreement seems to be with Disney Star hence OTT rights went to their OTT platform. Satellite Rights might also be with Star Gold.

Viacom18 studios too sells OTT rights to other prominent platforms instead of its own subsidiary Voot so as to generate more revenue. For certain movies they might as well look for other satellite broadcast partners for the same reason
