Hi buddy ! Sorry for late response, finding it difficult to juggle leisure and work.
Coming to ur point, Sony has surely done brilliant job with bringing old films back on tv and Max 2 is an excellent channel but they r only 1 or 1st one to make forgotten or flop films a hit on tv is not true. There r no. of films which zee or star have made popular though they were flops in theatres, Tarzan (2003) on zee is one such example later star got in and took benefit.
My issue with Sony is not giving due space to post 2000 or 2010 films, YRF must have exited bcoz of this very reason, money would b 2nd reason... Sony YRF shared a bond which went far ahead than solely b depending on monetary gains.
Sony has only recently started giving more airtime to bollywood films on max or wah that too not regularly, on many weekends still and earlier even more dubbed cinema filled schedule.
Sony is getting more ratings and I m quite sure majority comes from south indian states during dubbed cinema airing, more rating does not necessarily mean more revenue. Advertisers look for max reach and more value per ad slot while buying spots, for South Indian movies they will b more intetrested in buying ad slots on regional chs rather than Hindi Chs where south indian movie audience is primarily repeat lot, bollywood still holds key for hindi movie chs to get essential ratings which translate to getting high value ad spots. Another thing is return of investment, dubbed movies usually give better returns bcoz it costs less to acquire and be it a flop or hit return margins remain high.
Sony will have to search for more partners, max ratings is not key indicator to success.... There is deeper insight which decodes performance
