Discussion Satellite rights of Hindi movies

Star Network use to promote YRF movies on their Channels but this time it's sonething Different

It seems even Aditya Chopra is digusted with the way Neeraj Vyas is running his channels (except Max 2). No Yash Raj movie* released after 2006 can be watched at a decent hour (movies before 2006 are readily available on Max 2). So he went to Star which is not in the strongest position in the Hindi movie department, compared to Zee, which is completely dominating.

*Except ETT, TZH, Sultan and Dhoom 3.

So here is what could be the current scenario

- Sony continues to be home of YRF but the exclusive deal of Hritik with Star includes his YRF films unlike the earlier Salman case of where Star did not access to many big YRF movies.

- Sony continues to be YRF partner but either of them have first right to refusal wherein they can let go off rights of certain movies to other broadcasters as incase of Star-Hritik deal. In my opinion YRF must be having this right and take decisions accordingly, certain terms in new agreement must have been tweaked to give YRF this power as earlier Sony had complete rights over their library.

- Though will be a surprise and less likely but YRF moving on from Sony to Star India. Reasons could be fewer airing of their films or not getting required amount for rights. If this happens it will be major boost for Star India. Anyways with WAR going into Star's kitty it is almost sure than Koi Mil Gaya, Krrish, Krissh 3, Kites r also coming their way even if Sony retains YRF contract

By the way i still sense that from July 20 Sony Max will have more Bollywood Movies in their daily line-up. Let's wait n watch

As I have said:

Those are produced by Filmkraft, Rakesh Roshan's company. No guarantee they will go to Star.

99,999th post in the TV Channels forum.
