Viacom18 brand identity might remain as it is, just sony likely to b added in front of it. Remember if a company acquires a majority stake or does complete takeover then still they can continue sticking with separate names for its companies. Also here sony just had 38% share
No I was wrong . According to business today they are saying Sony will own 74% stake in viacom18 itself . not on 51% share of RIL
So in viacom18
Sony - 74%
RIL - 11%
ViacomCBS - 15%
Sony will be having power of all local Viacom brands where as RIL will get licence brands content for jio. And ViacomCBS will get international brands

Sony will hold 74% in the resultant merged company not in viacom18. Viacom 18 is a JV where 51% is owned by network 18 (75% owned by RIL) and 49% owned by Viacom. In the merged company 26% will be held by Viacom 18 of which RIL will own around 11%, Viacom will hold around 13% and around 2% would be for the non promoter shareholding in Network18.
IMO this merger is just to expand Sony branding to regional markets. It will be interesting to watch what Sony does in Bengali market where they have 2 failing channels Colors Bangla and Sony Aath in their cluster.

Viacom18 has a non compete clause in Telugu as far as I know with ETV when they acquired all ETV channels. So both might not be in the contention. Besides Telugu market already crowded which will not be easy for any new channel to get it's roots quickly.

Sony gains access to regional market from an already veteran player in this segment which they were looking for years. They get a youth centric network, 2 successful English GEC and dominance in kids market. While Viacom gets a English Movie and access to some of the most successful reality shows.
