TACTV floats global tender to procure 80 lakhs set top boxes.

but within 3 months they couldnot get 80 lakhs setup boxes...even manufacturing company need time for better standard setup boxes.if TACTV replace setup boxes for free if any damages or not working means no pblm then for customers.if not we should feel the burden.

In the tender these are clearly mentioned,

1: STB should have a replacement warranty for a period of 5 years.
2: Free maintenance and support for STB issues for all 5 years.
3: Service center in every taluk.
4: Full-fledged permanent office in Chennai to provide after sales services.
5: English & Tamil Call center with toll free numbers working 24x7.
6: STB issues resolved within 24 hrs (48 hrs for hill stations).

If the above happens then Arasu would be the best MSO ever.

Arasu to procure 7 mn STBs for DAS implementation in Tamil Nadu

After receiving a provisional multi-system operator (MSO) licence from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), the state government-owned Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation (TACTV) has floated a tender for procuring 70 lakh set-top boxes (STB). These include 60 lakh standard-definition (SD) STBs and 10 lakh high-definition (HD) STBs.

Arasu is also interested in getting price discovery for triple-play STB and Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) cable modem.

Arasu has to complete digitisation of its network within three months from the date of issue of licence, which is 17 April.

The proposed TV services, which will have 300 channels to start and to be expanded to 500 channels, will be in MPEG 4 SD and 30 television services in HD and 20 FM audio services with provision to add more SD and HD channels in the near future.
