It can be concluded that we could STBs having internet package without any need to connect to any wifi from dth players in upcoming 2 years. The next 2 years would be very critical for dth players in cities such as Delhi , Banglore , Chennai,West Bengal with the adoption of 5g era at an affordable price from Jio.

It's will be revolutionary change in DTH industry with our PM Modi vision to democratise internet fastly to end point of India with the help of its Digital India's mission in coming years.

Future is safe until atleast next decade. It's difficult getting fiber internet at smaller cities. Leave alone rural areas. Than people will have to buy smart TVs or atleast a HDTV with HDMI slots for smart boxes. Affordable mobile internet is also discouraging viewers to move to OTT. So DTH is here to stay for a long time. Based on how affordable DTH service is compared to internet. I see good growth in DTH sector.
How dth 's STB technology would change in contrast to internet service via internet?

When DTH was launched it was said that Cable TV would get obsolete soon and people will shift to DTH. Its 15+ years now since the launch of DTH and still a large % of population use Cable TV. They both have their own Pros and Cons...

Same way Internet and OTT can not replace DTH/Cable TV as may prefer watching live TV channels and changing them with a single remote button rather than switching between apps to access them.

Surely in coming years we may see integration of Internet and DTH like how @iDJ bro says with enhanced hardware and software, we never know what can come as technology and science is growing as we speak.

The main reason cable TV dominate over DTH is that affordability .People tend to shift toward technology which is affordable as in case of Jio revolution with affordable 4g internet. Now, the time of disruption in dth industry has already set with booming and expanding affordable services in India.Noone will take private DTH if would get all channels with ott at affordable price of 699 or 999 which is better than paid dth .

I took fiber connection and ditched DTH . All our serials news sports Consuming at evening during dinner without any ad break.
