I am planning to buy a free to air set top box,
find some stb Solid, stc etc.
my question is should I buy mp2 or mp4 with HD.?
can anyone point out the difference.
which one got more channels?

Please go for Mpeg4 HD box. Number of channels in Mpeg 2 is very less and will further reduced going forward. Buy STB which has DVB-S2, MPEG4

MPEG2 is old transmission technology and many broadcasters are moving out of it. As always suggested with all gadgets, go with latest one i.e. MPEG4 decoder.

Set up box only differs the channel quality. Not quantity

You have to buy C band (6feet) Primefocus dish Antenna & C band lnb (17k) and to tune Intelsat 17 for FTA chsnnels.Any Stb can store more than 1000 Channels.

Not exactly. There are FTA channels in mpeg2, MPEG4, (SD, HD) formats. SD channels may ಎ in mpeg2 or Mpeg4 compression. But HD is in Mpeg4 now.
Mpeg2 box can't receive other formats as it is not forward compatible.
Quality of channels depends on various other factors.

If you find a FTA HD box with icas, buy that. I don't think it is available as of now.
