This is our system... Drama.
TRAI should go to supreme court.
They will not unless they have any intent to do something for people ,what ever they done so was bcos of pressure now that they have done their part,I strongly believe TRAI will not appeal or don't ever bother.

TRAI gave 1st chance to Broadcasters for higher MRP of Rs.19, now how they can reduce in any chance?
If TRAI restrict MRP to Rs.10/- or Rs.12/- in NTO 1.0, then they cannot take any chance now.

The Bombay High Court will now hear the matter on the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) NTO 2.0 on 12 February. The Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) on January 13 had filed a writ petition against the regulatory body seeking a stay on the implementation of the new tariff order.

The court called both the parties on 30 January and heard both sides of arguments today. According to the sources, TRAI’s legal representative made a statement at the very beginning that the arguments should be based only on the petition and not on the rejoinder. Whereas the advocate for Film and TV Producers Guild of India stated that there is nothing new in the rejoinder and everything is available in public domain and TRAI website.

The Producers Guild Association’s advocate explained the setting up of TRAI as a Telecom regulator and how broadcasting came under it. He then stated about 2017 Interconnect regulations and 2017 tariff order which were challenged in Madras High Court by a writ petition. Then 2017 regulations came into effect and the previous 15% discount on bouquets was struck down. Within the next 6 months, TRAI introduced a new tariff order and did not allow the industry to settle down.

After Supreme Court's order, nobody can question TRAI's authority on matters of broadcasting. This will just prolong for years.

DTH and Cable companies need to publish the new tariffs by tomorrow on their websites for Customers' selection, as there is no stay on the NTO 2.0 and these companies are not part of the petitioners. This potentially means that most of the broadcaster bouquets from Star, Sony, Zee and Viacom 18 will be unavailable for selection and most of their channels will only be available on an al-a-carte basis.

Now How much cost of a la carte pay channel from these big broadcasters? Rs.19 or Rs.12?

If court cases continue for few months, NTO 2.0 without bouquets will make realise "aukaat" of all channels.

None of the MSO and DTH companies have messaged/ informed their subscriber till now, hence I don't think there will be any rate change. Existing rates continue to be valid as matter is sub judice.
