Good to see that Airtel has come up with such a superior product for its customers.

But there is 1 big issue with this Internet Tv set top box. As you can see from the pics, the new Internet Tv box only has 1 port for LNB antenna. But what about those customers who are currently using Airtel HD Recorder boxes which utilises 2 separate antenna lines from the LNB.

2 separate antenna lines ensure that you can watch one channel while record some other channel without any difficulty OR record 2 channels simultaneously while watching any one of them.

Airtel may say that with the new Internet tv box you can record 1 channel from the satellite dish while on the other hand you can watch some other content using android apps like youtube, netflix etc. BUT. BUT. youtube and netflix are different from your TV channels AND they consume your internet!

So what about these customers who are using HD Recorder boxes with 2 lines from the LNB?? I dont think Airtel has any plans for them. Airtel has, may be, shot in its foot by not providing 2 antenna support in its Internet Tv set top boxes, thereby ignoring the database of its customers who want to switch to Internet tv box BUT they cant simply because of this short coming.

Views, suggestions and opinions are welcome.

Regards

This is indeed true. But internet tv box based on android tv software is a new innovation. It is already costly. So to cut further expanses they might not included a HDD/SSD built in with dual tuners. Once the peoduct gets good responce they might launch it for DVR users too with all DVR features built in.

Thanks

As far as i know, Internet tv box already is a DVR. It has all the functions of a DVR such as play/pause live Tv, record programmes by connecting pen drive etc.

But you see now a days many people have bought HD Recorder boxes and by bringing in this kind of a box with only 1 tuner they are simply cutting off thousands of customers who want to switch to Internet tv but they wont! Why would they pay for this costly box which does not even have 2 tuners and a built in 320 gb hard disk? Moreover what will the people do with their second co-axial line which they have paid for??

They should have 100% maintained the features of their HD DVR in addition to other features bought by Internet tv box.

Internet TV is already a DVR? How? You have to know the difference between DVR and HD+ set top box. Internet TV is like HD+ not DVR.

I think all DVR users here should flood their inbox with mails, we must tell them that the only way they can lure existing DVR owners to upgrade is by launching a proper Android DVR.

The features coming in the future where programmes can be recorded on the clouds in future software upgrade hence no need to get DVR.

3. What are the other features available on this set-top box?
Airtel is committed to provide best technology and features for our users. As this is an android based
platform, there will be incremental features and regular updates to the InternetTV that will enable new
features going forward. Some of the features that will be coming soon are – Video conferencing app,
Cloud storage and recording, Catch-up TV, Restart TV etc.

Still DVR is more convenient as the programmes are stored in local drive so can be accessed without Internet and one can record 2 live channels at once.

Very true. Retriving from cloud is fine until and unless we have a truly unlimited internet connection.

There is no match for DVR experience. I have Airtel HD DVR & Samsung 3D Smart tv.
To be honest Smart tvs do not need Airtel Andriod STB unless one needs so many apps.
Youtube & Netflix, default browser are the most frequently used applications..
Paying insanely extra on the name on Andriod STB is not a good deal.

+1 +1

Moreover, why was it so difficult to maintain the 2 antenna system of Airtel's HD DVRs? Why did Airtel become soooo ignorant for its HD DVR customers who have the facility of recording 2 channels at once? Bad decision i must say!
