Last year it was an one sided affair. While IPL was on free on JioCinema where they offered IPL in 11 languages, a special star studded select feed and also in 4K. It was pay on Star Sports with just novelty features like some highlights and scorecards on Airtel and Tata Play. Although, DD FreeDish users got glimpses of many matches. But finals didn't make it. This year game is completely different. There is healthy competition between streaming and broadcasting. Star has a 4K channel. This will be first time a sporting event is airing live on 4K after 9 years and a first time for IPL. Also more matches than last year are expected to air on DD FreeDish this year. TV this year has it's edge as Star is banking on nostalgia bringing in Navjot Singh who was the heart of Extra Innings the popular pre and post show that aired on Sony until the rights of IPL moved to Star. It's a tough choice to choose between Star Sports and JioCinema over one another.
