Taj Television, the distribution arm of ZEEL, has priced the channel at Rs 30 for the distribution platforms.
The leader in the English entertainment genre, Zee Café shows popular American television shows like ‘Pretty Little Liars’, ‘Two And A Half Men’, ‘The Big Bang Theory’, ‘House of Cards’ and ‘Gotham’, along with Indian show ‘Look Who’s Talking With Niranjan’.
Earlier in February, the company had brought all its HD channels under the new brand identity in order to drive monetisation based on the perception of more affluent audiences of the HD channels.
The Zee HD League already has Zee TV HD, &TV HD, Zee Cinema HD, &Pictures HD, ZEE Studio HD, TEN HD and Ten Golf HD in its bouquet.
Regarding the addition of Zee Café HD to the Dish TV bouquet, Dish TV COO Salil Kapoor said, “Our endeavour is to increase affinity with our audiences by providing them the choice of content they would like to watch.
And now by adding Zee Café HD to our channel bouquet, we take pride in offering maximum HD content to our customers and we will continue to expand our offerings with further additions.”
Broadcasters are betting big on HD with the boom in the sale of HD television sets and DTH subscribers increasingly opting for HD service.
While cable operators have not been able to push HD in a meaningful way, DTH has been witnessing massive growth in the number of HD subscribers.
Over 25 per cent of new subscribers every quarter are opting for HD connections.
Moreover, HD adoption helps in driving ARPU growth for broadcasters as well as DTH operators.
Incidentally, on average, the revenue from an HD subscriber is 1.5–2 times the revenue from a non-HD subscriber.
