Earlier this month, Economic Times reported that Tata Sky is planning to cancel some subscribed channels and packs of customers who have a monthly bill of Rs. 350 or less. According to the report, the rationalization process should have started from June 15, and around six-seven million subscribers were about to get their channels and packs rationalized.
But, since then, no Tata Sky customer has reported about their channels and packs being rationalized. It appears that Tata Sky is yet to start the rationalization process. Tata Sky customer and our community forum member IndiaN, said, “Anyone who got the SMS? Spending below ₹400 for two connections but not on their list.”
Another Tata Sky customer and our community forum member Balmeter, said, “Does anyone have an idea of what happened to this news? Did Tata Sky cut channels or packs? It is already June 22, and several publications went with this story, but no one seems to have updated it.”
Another Tata Sky customer and our community forum member DJ Roy with a monthly bill of Rs 250 didn’t receive any rationalization. The user went on deactivate his Tata Sky connection on 18th June. Multiple other Tata Sky customers we spoke to having monthly pack price less than Rs 400 have also denied receiving pack rationalization.
Press query sent to Tata Sky earlier this week seeking an update on the pack rationalization remains unanswered at the time of filing this story. The reluctance to answer a question on a move in which Tata Sky briefed ET in detail and gave its official statement to multiple other leading news portal indicates it has seemingly shelved its plan to trim the monthly bills.
Given the huge amount of customers i.e 1/3 of Tata Sky’s customer base which were identified by the analytics team, had the rationalization been carried out someone or the other with a monthly bill under Rs 400 would have received it. Neither has any Tata Sky customer received it, nor is the Tata Sky customer care aware of any such rationalization.
For now, there is no information available when Tata Sky will begin the process of rationalizing channels and packs of customers. Whether it happened or they pulled back, will likely remain an unanswered question.
