India’s largest Direct-to-Home (DTH) provider Tata Sky has today rebranded itself to Tata Play. The company officially unveiled its new brand identity today further amplifying its presence in the Indian media and entertainment space. The new brand identity will be visible to the customers starting 27th January.
The new brand identity is in line with the increasing business interests of the company beyond Direct-to-Home (DTH) services. “Tata Play promises to make life more Jingalala for its subscribers by creating a seamless and connected world of entertainment,” said Tata Play in a statement.
Tata Sky over the last few years has held the commanding position in the DTH sector. The change of the company name to Tata Play will accelerate the forward momentum of the company due to its inclusive and scalable identity. The new identity will further aid the company in diversifying into allied businesses.
“Tata Sky leveraged its market leadership in its core business to create an ecosystem of content delivery by foraying into OTT and Broadband. We believe it is time for a brand identity that resonates beyond our DTH business. I thank Tata Sons and The Walt Disney Company for backing this business, which over the years has expanded to 23 million households and made our content distribution platform a formidable player in the market. I firmly believe that it’s one thing to own content, quite another to make it accessible. Distribution is what makes content easily discoverable for the masses, consumed, and talked about. Our DTH business has a sizeable market share and we’ll continue our endeavour to expand the TV viewing universe. The name Tata Play thus signifies our expanded range of product and services. The new identity is an outcome of our desire to be future-ready while making tomorrow better than today for homes and families.”

Tata Play is also making service visits free for all its customers starting today. Tata Play’s deactive DTH customers can also continue to recharge and get restarted on the platform with no reconnection charges. Tata Play has also welcomed Netflix to its family expanding the range of offerings for its customers.
The company will promote its new brand identity heavily across all touchpoints starting today and in the coming months. Tata Play will be promoted in the national markets by Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan whereas in the south markets it will be promoted by R Madhavan and Priyamani.
OK but from when it will include “HBO” and other international channels including “NHK World”??????????
HBO shut down over a year ago and NHK World is no longer available in India.
