In AD HD, earlier, every channel use to have different volume levels. That too HD channels were very low in volume (Star Group and NGC and Discovery, Movies Now etc). After new software download, this problem is resolved. Now all channels have uniform volume level. Thanx AD TV! But seriously the Zee TV HD is not 5.1 Audio. Its Just 2 Channel out put.

Really? And here I am taking them to the consumer court for not fixing these critical issues of continuously changing volume levels on almost all HD channels.

Wish there was a software update which enables automatic volume leveling of all the channels which could have been disabled by the users and we would have saved ourselves from this continuous niggling of Airtel with audio of channels like their NoC teams sit in their bedroom and casually play with the audio.

Airtel has a grown a big team for these tweaking with audio continuously. In November they said they are up for contract renewal and after then they will stop playing with audio themselves and let the channels maintain volume levels. That didn't happen and after more escalations they confirmed through Star Movies HD that passing through Dolby Digital audio as it is fixes all the issues while these Asli HD channels themselves manage audio levels of commercials by changing the volume offset and enabling Dynamic Range compression (only for commercials).

Please be aware that a software update can never fix audio levels as they get decoded as broadcasted through their NoC and some channels need to have lower volume levels to maintain distortion free audio of High Dynamic Range content.

Auto volume levelling is required as it helpes user a lot. Otherwise user has to keep on changing volume as per his requirment after changing channel.
Many TV viewers simply keep on changing channels & then again they have to adjust volume level.

Yes, so for them they need to provide that on the STB as an option instead of playing with content themselves. As I also get annoyed by different volume levels but really can not tolerate continuously changing volume when at times sound gets so lost that you cannot even hear the dialogs and at other times it gets so loud that it becomes very irritating.

Consistent volume of actual programming is paramount to enjoy the content without noticing such niggling as manually changing volume will never cause such issues.

Also, most of the TVs (I am unaware of any sold in the past more than a decade including regular CRT TVs) have this feature and content providers need to ensure that the volume remains consistent for all the programming (All Star HD channels use volume offset method on Dolby Digital metadata to achieve this).

As observed, volume fluctuations are way more when Airtel does the tweaking and its quite consistent on all HD channels though switching them even now with all their butchering causes heavy volume changes. If we get content as it is, we will get 100% quality as broadcasted and also no volume fluctuation unless a content has some issue.

Airtel anyway tell that they only pass the audio and if they do that precisely, I am sure most of us will never complain as its anyway excellently managed on most of the principle channels like those from Star, Sony, Zee, etc. For others, our AVRs and TVs are already equipped with such options which never cause such serious issues.

Most importantly, such controls exist in Dolby Metadata for the users anyway and such options have to be given to the user and operator can NOT decide on its own how they want to tweak the audio for millions of users!
