Rajesh Kaul, head of sports business, Sony Pictures Networks India, said the company is keen to acquire the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) bi-lateral cricket rights while maintaining fiscal prudence.

“We will definitely go for the BCCI media rights. We will do our analysis when they (BCCI) come out with the tender, and then we will put whatever is the fair price for the rights,” Kaul added.

So as per the article, Sony is not in race for herring BCCI rights. It is star vs jio

BCCI is in the process of floating the tender. However, unlike last time, BCCI is set to separate TV and digital rights after an overwhelming response from IPL Media Rights. And with that, a senior BCCI official believes the board can earn over Rs 12,000 Crore, double what the board earned from sales in 2018.

The last time BCCI sold media rights, they bagged Rs 6138.10 Cr with Disney-Star bagging the rights.

With India set to play 20 Tests, 21 ODIs and 31 T20s at home under the 2023-27 FTP, BCCI expects a great deal once again.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expects over Rs 12,000 Crore from the sale of media rights of matches at home.

However, industry experts are not convinced by the number. The big factor is 21 ODIs before and after the ICC World Cup 2023. Despite India Cricket Team playing, ODIs have lost appeal and viewership gradually.

“Let’s be honest, ODIs are not that appealing anymore. Yes, there may be great hype during World Cup and get a good viewership as it’s happening in India, but overall, the format doesn’t attract a great audience. With over 21 ODIs in the next four years at home, it is unlikely that BCCI will fetch over 10,000 Crore,” an industry source close to the development told InsideSport.

The BCCI isn’t convinced that an e-auction will be the way forward again, given that market interest is not sky high.

Those who track numbers closely insist that while the BCCI had sold the bilateral rights at Rs 60.18 crore per game in the past, the broadcaster barely managed to recover Rs 35 crore to Rs 40 crore per game in the case of the most marquee clash.
