TRAI herself defeated her motto by setting ₹130+18% base price thus made all the FTA paid or even more expansive than some paid channels quoted at present. The main motto of TRAI was to give freedom for the consumers to view what they want. Now with 15 percent rule not in place, broadcasters have set ridiculous prices for individual channels and providing huge discounts on bouquets by combining popular channels with non popular channels. This defeats the whole purpose of the new regime. Take an example of Star/Zee/Sun bouquets. They are playing with the minds of consumers, by projecting as if they are giving so many channels at lesser prices whereas in reality they want the users to pay for useless channels in the name of bouquet. Pathetic tactics from broadcasters and TRAI had become their puppet.
Another problem we have So many players with so many options. Being a diverse nation it's natural but TRAI failed to balance reality (of what a common viewer wants and paying) & what should be done(So no service provider can loot viewers)
TRAI also overlooked another point that sometime we watch a particular channel just Twice or Thrice in a month or even in Six month but if you ask me my reply will be I want it.
It's a complex issue with no simple solution specially as a consumer i want to pay just ₹200/250 and service provider wants ₹500+
