@sbhopale, what about sun direct, aren't they also out?

in the present scenario sun direct is like cable. Sun provide south base service only. So i think it is in strong position in south but sun is already out from all india[except some south region]. Even when i ask local dealer about sun he said sun direct is not available with him. So sun direct has no future[recently they remove puthiya tilumarai for only bad relation. Its a good channel. If they do this how can survive] but reliance can do better if they invest some more mony.

I think word of mouth publicity is a very important aspect of marketing in India and that is where both Airtel DTH & Videocon D2H score highly. :D

D2H has positive reviews from most of its customers because it has understood the pulse of customers by offering economical, well designed packages and satisfactory customer care service. It also tends to fine tune its packages by including fresh channels that are highly desired by the customers. :sp

On the other hand, Airtel scores heavily because of its brand name, support of existing infrastructure & customer service, good a-la-carte pricing and wonderful quality of audio & video. :win

Sun DTH has a strong presence in South and a glance at their regional packages makes it clear that they aim to stay focused on a particular region only. The fact that many of the South Indian channels are owned by them also helps them in staying price-competitive in the region.

What About Dish TV, Tata Sky, Reliance?

What About Dish TV, Tata Sky, Reliance?

Tata Sky had one of the most promising starts in the DTH market and quickly became the blue eyed boy of the customers. It still is one of the best brands in DTH - adding the trust of Tata with the technical competence of Sky. :nj

However, unlike the newer players it has not adopted an aggressive pricing policy. Also it had to restrict the no. of channels on offer due to technical reasons. Even its customer service quality has gone down a bit since its inception. Thus low cost options have emerged as better alternatives for the price-conscious Indian customers, specially ones who have newly migrated from Cable TV. :no

Reliance is best compared with a firecracker, something that has BIG impact for a small time (co-incidentally it was named BIG TV in the beginning).

After an aggressive start that saw them giving away free dish antennas & STBs, their marketing efforts have gone down the hill. They have failed to understand the importance of a strong regional content...their customer care has become slow in resolving issues and it seems even their strategy team fails to have a mission statement!
:u

Apart from being the first player in DTH segment, the biggest advantage of Dish TV is the backing of Zee Group. It still constantly updates it package contents, tries to be price-competitive and doesn't hesitate in paying big money to stars for its ad-campaigns. The problem though is that issues related to customer service and problem in maintaining a healthy relationship with its dealers have often caused lack of word-of-mouth publicity for the old horse
