The fifth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be broadcast across India in all its high definition glory by direct to home operators Tata Sky, Sun Direct, Dish TV, and Airtel Digital TV, in addition to multi system operator Hathway Cable & Datacom.

Last year just Tata Sky and Sun Direct had HD deals for the glamorous cricket tournament with MSM Discovery/The One Alliance, the distribution partner of Sony Television in India, which exclusively broadcasts IPL action on its Sony MAX channel.

The distributor is reportedly also in continued discussions with other domestic DTH players such as Videocon d2h, as the action from the twenty20 (T20) cricket event begins.

"We will have the IPL HD feed on the main DTH subscribers. Tata Sky and Sun Direct have renewed the deal as they have found value in it. We have also got three other DTH operators in, which gives us a huge reach," Rajesh Kaul, president, MSM Discovery told Indian Television.

Hathway digital cable subscribers in Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Bangalore will be able to tune into all the HD action from the IPL.

"The DLF IPL product in HD will further strengthen the close working environment as a precursor to more innovation in the ensuing digital transition, and bring home to the Hathway digital consumers further value and joy in the holiday season," said K Jayaraman, managing director and chief executive, Hathway.

The eight-week IPL season begins on 4 April in Chennai, as Chennai Super Kings take on Mumbai Indians. Sony MAX will broadcast the tournament's 70 plus games live, while Times Internet and YouTube will provide online match streaming.
