A HD Hindi news channel is set to launch in India, following a reported investment of INR 400 million to secure cable and satellite TV distribution.
News Express is part of the Noida-based Sai Prasad Media, which in turn is part of the enormous Sai Prasad Group. The channel has already booked its carriage with all of India’s large multi system operators (MSOs) and five of the six direct to home (DTH) platforms, with the exception of Tata Sky – according to Indiantelevision.com.
“We are gearing up to launch the channel by mid-July. We are spending 400 million rupees on distribution. All our distribution deals are done and it is our biggest cost,” Mukesh Kumar, chief executive officer and editor, News Express, told the online publication.
“We have over 300 reporters across eight states,” added Mr Kumar. “We will have special programming based on hard core politics: politics in a corporate setup, politics at home, in social life, et cetera.”
