I remember Star only aired highlights of IPL back when Sony had the rights.
That's because BCCI wanted to promote CLT20 which was on ESPNStarSports, not because Star brought the IPL highlights...

By highlighting I meant archive of all these years of IPL.

I remember Star only aired highlights of IPL back when Sony had the rights. Otherwise if you had missed the morning highlights on Max. You had no option to watch the highlights.
They would have access to highlights as long as they have rights to Package A, but they can only air on TV.

Hope Zee/Sony and Disney Star invest these huge money on right new sports and entertainment contents, especially Disney + hotstar originals most of Remake/Adaptation of European and HBO shows. Hotstar need to avoid these and bring originals like Sony Liv.
In their statement they have said currently almost 80 original local series are in pipeline for hotstar....hope they will be of good quality n content....also m sure they will invest more in acquiring movie rights...for tv and hotstar.

Yes. That 18matches are crucial and important matches and viewership for those matches are highest.without that 18 matches, rest matches do not make any senses.
For this tactic of BCCI, Amazon did not participate.

I know that these 18 matches r extremely important and crucial but what i am trying to decode is that if viacom18 would not have bought Package C then would the losses be more than Rs. 33 crore per match? Even if count the total cost of buying Package C then would viacom18 faced losses equal to that amount had it not bought Package C. If losses would have been more then it makes sense to buy Package C , if this is not the case then viacom18 has bought the matches just so that they continue to have exclusive access to these matches. In my opinion latter would b the reason.

In my opinion BCCI should have kept Package C reserved for all other bidders except the one who won Package B , there should have been some discount given in price of these 98 matches to winner of Package B. This way purpose of Package B and C would have been best served. Ofcourse best decision would have been have just one digital rights package which covered all matches or they could have worked on some other strategy to have different digital packs or a strategy in order to maximise revenue.

Another thing is that viacom18 could have invested big money in running special contests for viewers who tune into their channels and have bigger prizes for these 98 games. Even half of investment in this as compared to what amount they shelled out to buy Package C would have ensured that they got great ratings for all matches
