I know that these 18 matches r extremely important and crucial but what i am trying to decode is that if viacom18 would not have bought Package C then would the losses be more than Rs. 33 crore per match? Even if count the total cost of buying Package C then would viacom18 faced losses equal to that amount had it not bought Package C. If losses would have been more then it makes sense to buy Package C , if this is not the case then viacom18 has bought the matches just so that they continue to have exclusive access to these matches. In my opinion latter would b the reason.

In my opinion BCCI should have kept Package C reserved for all other bidders except the one who won Package B , there should have been some discount given in price of these 98 matches to winner of Package B. This way purpose of Package B and C would have been best served. Ofcourse best decision would have been have just one digital rights package which covered all matches or they could have worked on some other strategy to have different digital packs or a strategy in order to maximise revenue.

Another thing is that viacom18 could have invested big money in running special contests for viewers who tune into their channels and have bigger prizes for these 98 games. Even half of investment in this as compared to what amount they shelled out to buy Package C would have ensured that they got great ratings for all matches
Yes.
These are crucial 18matches. Viacom can bargain with sponsor for higher price for these matches. Without exclusivity, they might have gone to the other party.
3300Cr is not big amount considering they have spent 20300Cr.

Instead of IPL, T20 world cup should be scheduled every year, personal opinion as I don't like IPL at all
But India's poor performance at ICC events in the recent years are hurting broadcaster/sponsor a lot.

India have to be one of the finalist for ICC events to grow.

I don't think.. Star and Viacom.. any of them are going to recover their money since it registered a 33 percent decline in current season.
This will be a real test for them.
When Sony had the rights, they had to pay too less so it was overally too much profitably for them.
After star took the rights, they somehow managed with hotstar by bundling with isps/Flipkart/dth streaming almost free for the subscriber.
But this time both rights goes to different parties. They have to make different strategies to recover money which is too difficult considering the TVR this ipl.

Come on yaar. even strong teams like New Zealand, South Africa yet to win ICC events, but when multiple teams competes with each other, then there is a thrill, Earlier ICC used to schedule triangular , quadrangle series every year but this league culture has ruined everything

sony is a smart broadcaster, invested money for internationl cricket, It holds the right for international matches in England, Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, I was sure that they will not bid for overrated 'IPL'

I think Sony is unable to get ICC and BCCI rights on opposite of Dinsey and Reliance with huge money in hand.
