MSM launches Pix HD

MUMBAI: Multi Screen Media (MSM) has launched a high-definition version of its English movie channel Pix. “We have launched Pix HD. Our initial target is digital cable. We are also talking to DTH operators,” said MSM English channel cluster head Saurabh Yagnik. sony-pix-hd-logo01It has taken MSM a while to launch Pix in HD.

Movies Now was the first English movie channel to launch in HD. Then other players like Star followed suit. Yagnik adds that initially the channel will not carry ads. It will have advertising, but following the industry trend, there will be fewer compared to the standard-definition version of Pix. The content on both channels is the same.

An industry expert notes that HD channels like Pix target a super premium audience. “A channel like Pix will have SEC A, B as the target, but the HD channel will address a higher layer SEC A+.

We are seeing advertising trends evolve on HD. Last year BMW and Mercedes ran campaigns on HD. HD has a niche target because a luxury brand like Mercedes is not for everyone.

There is higher efficiency from reach. A premium brand can use HD to reach the right people. There is very limited wastage. It is a misconception that the benefit of HD for a broadcaster is only subscription.”

In terms of marketing, Pix is using MSM’s network. “We are using our own channels to create awareness. Promos have already started airing,” added Yagnik.

DTH platforms have the largest HD subscribers, and their initial target is digital cable. That's just so lame.

They are saying simply lie once again. In spite of good marketing team of MSM they are not getting good response from DTH services.now a days DTHs are very choosy because of space utilization. Sony HD was added in many DTHs on launching day it self because that is a Hindi GEC channel but that kind of response is not getting from DTHs.it is an English movie channel and target members also very less comparing to HIndi GEC channels.MSM wants big money from this channel.they are treating as a premium channel.So DTHs are maintaining wait and see policy.
Now MSM targeting Digital cable marketing because they can add easily.
now this channel will come in Hathway,7star,Den and rest of the digital cables.
we have to wait some more days for DTHs.as per inside news..Tata sky,Dish TV are showing interest to take this channel.for D2H and ADTV talks are going on.will see who will lauch first this channel.

I am waiting for pix hd in dth because of the awesome clarity of pix sd version even in led tv also and also this is the Sony's first movie Channel in hd.They have good collection of movies also.
