Which OTT app have the highest number of users, downloads and subscribers?? Its Hotstar right?? If we follow your logic, then what about Hotstar users who might ask where Hotstar is??

Sorry, but there is absolutely no way JioCinema is a good name, not even in a million years. I understand you are fan of Viacom18/ Reliance and will defend that name, but its widely considered poor and meaningless. If the new merged entity is going to be named SIPL, it would make more sense to include a suffix like STAR or Hotstar, given its association with star. The name Cinema doesnt convey much.

You suggest creating a category called Hotstar, but Hotstar offers significantly more content than JioCinema. It would be more effective to create categories based on brands like Star, Colors, Disney, HBO, Anime, Kdrama etc., instead of just using Hotstar.
All im giving is the facts that will happen and not what i feel should happen. We all had same discussion during voot merge with Jio cinema. and some weird jiovoot names . Ultimately Jio cinema stayed.

just because Cinema word is there it cannot be bad. Remember even the biggest streamer Netflix has movie in its name. All we need to ask now is to get better and simpler UI.

PS: SIPL is not the official name of the merged entity, nowhere have they said that. SIPL is traded name of Disney star.

Jio’s name feels quite cheap compared to Reliance, a original name, which had a more global and premium sound. Im genuinely curious about who comes up with such terrible names at Reliance, considering how unique their original name was.

Jio Cinema is not just cheap name it is extremely ordinary as well. Their logo, their ui and their services everything feels like illegal apps. Its been like 2 years and they didnt changed a single thing, no change in UI, no change in video quality. And then they decide they will merge Hotstar content with Jiocinema. This is almost like Star Bharat scenario.

We should watch or not watch Jio cinema, they might shutdown D+HS due to partner commitments to rivals (ex.: D+HS in Airtel xstream fiber bundle, Tata play binge aggregator, ACT net, Excitel fiber, BSNL fiber etc.), but Jio cinema premium not partnered to opponents as of now.

But Netflix name is clearly not uninspiring like JioCinema. JioCinema sounds like a bhojpuri cinemahall.

Many of us are discussing what the new name should be and in which in app it should integrate with. What actually happens will be a different matter, as we are not entirely sure what the outcome will be.

Netflix is the name of the parent company, so it will likely remain unchanged. Additionally, Netflix is not tied to any specific television network, yes, it streams content from various television networks, but its not permanently linked to any linear tv network, but thats not case with OTT apps who are tied with particular television network, for example, Sony Liv incorporates the name of its parent company, Sony, Zee5 includes Zee; SunNxt includes Sun, HBO Max includes HBO and Paramount+ includes Paramount.

In contrast, JioCinema is different. It is not associated with Reliance’s Jio telecommunications brand but is part of Digital18, a subsidiary of Viacom18. OTT apps linked to linear TV networks usually include the parent network's name for brand continuity and familiarity.

SIPL is not a name for a merger entity?? As shown in the Reliance agreement documents you posted, Digital18 will transfer to Viacom18, and then Viacom18 will move to Star India Pvt Ltd. Ultimately, everything will merge into SIPL, so more or less SIPL will be the new name.

RIL is maintained Jio as mandatory word for all its digital apps, Jio mart, Ajio (owner: Reliance Retail), Jio cinama (owner: Viacom18 till merger).

One more thing i would like to add is that you are claiming to state facts, but except for a few random articles, nowhere is it mentioned that the JioCinema name will be retained or that Hotstar content will be merged into JioCinema. Yet, you remain adamant that SIPL is the only traded name when, in all Reliance related official documents, it is shown that SIPL will be the name of the merged entity. Therefore, SIPL is a more likely scenario compared to JioCinema.

It doesnt matter what RIL does with their digital apps, im discussing the standard practice of naming OTT apps after the parent company for brand continuity and why JioCinema fails in that regard. What RIL does or doesnt do is a separate issue altogether.

They might take Star name to merged app after some time like Jio Star (highlighted with both brands).
