Star is loosing movies after acquiring??
They have lost the rights of Mission raniganj and now Shaitaan which are critically acclaimed and can definitely get good ratings than Zee and Sony.
Is they are tired of acquiring movies or they are cost cutting?
They have now rights of movies like Maidaan,Sarfira,Munjya and Maharaj.
Bro, On what basis r u drawing a conclusion that Disney-Star is losing out on movies.....they have premiered many new bollywood movies in past 6 or 8 months tooo.....also in coming months they have new movies like Crakk, Crew, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, Munjya, Sarfira, Maidaan, Maharaj and many more, not only this but they have been acquiring so many New+Old Dubbed as well as English Version of so many Hollywood Movies from different studios/companies , Older Bollywood Movies and even they have acquired many New Dubbed South Indian Movies too.
Also in other genres like Sports , GEC, Infotainment, Kids too they r continuosly expanding the content portfolio both on Linear TV + Digital Platforms. ......they will likely reduce investing in some of the very high cost sporting properties and use that money to expand its offerings across other genres.
Sony on the other hand has a very small Linear TV Channels portfolio and even its OTT platform Sony Liv is far behind Disney+Hotstar and even other platforms as far as content + popularity is concerned. Having a very small portfolio of channels , OTT content and not investing on very high priced cricket properties translates into them not facing huge losses from these hence u see them reporting overall profits but again Disney-Star running such large bouquet of TV Channels and providing large library of content on both TV and OTT front and getting great viewership + generating massive revenue means they r performing exceedingly well, only sports business is in loss that too bcoz we know it becomes very difficult to recover investments made in premium cricket or other sports properties combined with logistics cost ( production , distribution, transmission etc.)
Lastly there was never any confirmation about Shaitaan movie being with Disney-Star......as far as Mission Raniganj is concerned it could well be that 1st Puja Entertainment decided to sell satellite rights to Disney-Star but later due some reason deal got cancelled or as it seems Akshay Kumar has signed exclusive agreement with Disney-Star so he would have decided to buy rights of the movie from Puja Entertainment to give to Disney-Star but was not able to arrive at mutually acceptable decision with the producer for the same. Even Dream Girl2 was 1st meant to premiere on Zee Cinema but later Disney-Star got the satellite rights, so was the case with 1920:Horrors Of The Heart.
Sony, Viacom18 need to air more bollywood movies on their flagship channels and Sony also needs to launch a dedicated channel for critically acclaimed bollywood movies as they have large library of such movies which get hsown mostly in watershed hours. Also Sony should consider launching a movie channel for hindi dubbed hollywood movies. Zee is improving as far as airing diverse variety of bollywood movies on its channels is concerned but they too need to air more dubbed hollywood movies across its hindi movie channels
