scv should all tamil channels in their base pack with out removing any competitor channels,so that they would be able to easily catch the market.

they are morons always trying to remove channels who they see as competition.

So people who subscribe to Tamil pack alone without any sports or vijay tv can pay just Rs 40 instead of the monthly minimum Rs 100 or 120?

i think you may be wrong. as no LCO will give a digital connection for Rs40 per month. cheaper than analogue!!

Excellent move by SCV that too when they have absolutely zero competition from any other MSO.

Benefit for SCV: A package called Tamil pack with just sun network channels.

So people who subscribe to Tamil pack alone without any sports or vijay tv can pay just Rs 40 instead of the monthly minimum Rs 100 or 120?

Benefit for subscribers:

If this becomes true and if they can give some sort of assurance on STB investment then most of them will close their analogue and run towards digital as with a one time investment of Rs 1,300 they can save Rs 60 - 80 per month on the monthly bills and watch some additional tamil channels that are not available on analogue. Others who want to pay more for addon will also find all required channels well within Rs 200 as the base pack is itself cheap.

Unless an MSO that doesn't own a channel comes this option is not possible,

Arasu if available (but they are nowhere in sight) can limit this issue with just 2 or 3 channels but any channel owning MSO will try to remove as much as competitors channels as possible to promote their own products.

Well, as per the below post one 3 options are possible.

In a drastic move to attract more customers in digital mode, scv has drastically reduced the Tamil pack from the existing 152Rs plus tax now shown in SCV main screen as Rs135 plus tax to Rs40 Plus tax. The following would be the changes in the existing tamil pack, all the sports channels of star network ie. ss1,2.3.4 and vijay TV would not be available on this tamil pack cust has to select those channels in a-la-carte mode. This pack is in effect from april 1, 2015.

1: Give the Tamil package at Rs 40 which you say not possible.
OR
2: Base pack Rs 100 + Tamil pack Add-on Rs 40 which brings the total to Rs 140 and additional expense of min Rs 15 for sports and Rs 5 for Vijay which brings the total to Rs 160 which is costlier than the old tamil pack and makes no sense to the topic.
OR
3: Reduce base pack to Rs 40 + Tamil pack Add-on Rs 40 which brings the total to Rs 80 and additional expense of min Rs 15 for sports and Rs 5 for Vijay which brings the total to Rs 100 and goes with the topic but why would Analogue users move to DAS under this plan.

So no idea unless SCV themselves announce their plan its hard to know what their plans are to move subscribers from Analogue to DAS.

Just wanted to stop some speculations,

I have the provisional New SCV package details in Hand ,

1. Tamil Pack has all the 38 Tamil Channels in the pack , except Vijay TV

2. Tamil Pack is priced at Rs 135/pm + Tax

3. All the STAR Channels only on A-la-carte only , except for Hindi. For Hindi it is available as Hindi Addon.

4. All other Add on packs become very cheaper , ex Discovery Pack all Discovery Channels (7 Channels) for Rs 12+ Tax , all Ten Group channels (4 channels) for Rs 5+Tax

5. Vijay TV - Rs. 8.5 + Tax. Star Sports 1 - Rs 19.5 + Tax. Star Sports 2 - Rs 22 + Tax.Star Sports 3 - Rs 16.5 + Tax.Star Sports 4 - Rs 19.5 + Tax.

6. No change in HD packages.

* This is provisional , LCO yet to get the packaged details brochure. LCO also claim that there is package for only Tamil Pack for Rs 45 , but he has no details as of now.

im not saying what you said is wrong, i said you may be wrong or right as a mso cannot give a connection for Rs40 PM. we have to wait for them to come with the details .

SCV is in discussion with Reliance Jio for the merger and Internet over cable.

if this happens it will be a major breakthrough. since we do not have any cheap alternate to broadband now. ACT seems to be cheaper but not available everywhere in chennai.
